Repair Scratched and Scored Piston Rods

Standard repairs of scratched or scored hydraulic piston rods is usually conducted by stripping off the existing hard chrome plate, polishing to remove the damage, hard chrome plating to size and a final polish

Deeper scratches and scores will require cylindrical grinding of the piston rod, a thicker deposit of chrome and cylindrical grinding and polishing to finish.
Rusted and Pitted Piston Rods​​​

Rusted or pitted hydraulic piston rods are locally welded to build the original material near to size. They are then ground, hard chrome plated, ground to size and finally polished.

Whenever possible, we aim to salvage and re-use the eye end of the rod, through screw cutting and welding to new chrome bar.

For badly damaged rods that cannot be re-manufactured economically, we can cylindrical grind the piston rod to a new size and hard chrome plate. This will require new glands and seals being manufactured to suit the smaller piston rod size.
